It’s official – the new Strangeling lanyard is in the works!
Though the last ones turned out very cute, there were several changes I wanted to make (and also we listened to all your suggestions and are doing our best to implement those as well!).
Here’s the basic template as to the new design – a few things of note:
*”Breakaway style clasp” has been added – this is a safety feature, specifically for those of you who use lanyards in your workplace, a lot of companies require a breakaway safety feature (so you won’t accidentally hang yourself if it gets caught in machinery, etc. – it’s a Strangeling lanyard, not a Strangling lanyard ;P ;P )
*New, more durable material! Last time we used a ribbon type material which was great for showing fine linework detail on the artwork designs but it was not very thick and not the sturdiest fabric (for example if you move your pins around a lot it might leave little pinholes). This next lanyard will have a twill/woven fabric.
*Longer, more narrow design. As I wanted this new lanyard to be more functional, we went with a longer, more narrow design this time – should be easier for people who actually use their lanyards for keeping ID cards, cards and need to swipe them to clock in, open doors, etc.
And of course, we’ll have new artwork 😉 I’m looking at the different printing options for this type of thicker material (they have screen printing options, which means it all needs to be solid colors, like the pin designs I printed on the last one, or they have digital printing/sublimation which could theoretically have many gradients of color like in my actual original paintings, etc.), but it will definitely feature my artwork in one way or another and will complement the pins & the previous lanyard!
ALL of you who are in the Patreon Pin Collector Tier will automatically receive this new lanyard of course – I’m hoping (now that I have a vendor/product I’m more satisfied with) to come out with new designs in this format with new artwork on a more regular basis (and my Pin Collectors will of course get ALL of them we ever release). I’m not sure when my inventory will come in (in the next month I’m living part time in my Kansas City studio and part time in my London studio AND hopping back to my primary Florida studio/house periodically for all the Epcot events AND refurbishing our new printing/framing office in Florida) so timing on large overseas shipments is a bit nutty a the moment. But when we do get them in stock (probably either January or February) we will send the new lanyards with your Pin of the Month shipments, so keep an eye out!
If you are not yet a Patreon Pin Collector it’s a great time to join – we still have EIGHT of the original Strangeling lanyards, so if you sign up now (if you are one of the next EIGHT people) you’ll get the original lanyard, the Patreon “The Scarecrow” pin, and since it’s still December you’d get the “Snowflake Fairy” pin all sent out to you immediately, and then in just a week or two you’ll get the Frost Dragonling pin and of course the new lanyard as soon as they arrive in stock. We will not be making any more of the original Strangeling lanyards (the previous design) so it’s a “last chance” really for those next eight people to start off with the original lanyard and to be signed up to the new one and all the subsequent lanyards.
