Grayscale Coloring Pages?

This is aimed primarily at my Colorists up here =)

Anybody interested at all in grayscale coloring pages?  I’ve had quite a few requests lately for “Grayscale” coloring pages (in addition to my traditional lineart coloring pages of course, I’m always going to keep making those!).

For those who don’t know, grayscale coloring pages are a relatively new trend with coloring books – instead of just being outlines, grayscale coloring pages look more like a black & white photo or underpainting.  In this photo I’ve posted here for example, there is a traditional “lineart” style coloring page on your left, and a “grayscale” coloring page on your right.

Basically with grayscale pages, the shading is provided already – and you can use lighter color media, or watercolor paint, or transparent or digital media, etc. on it so that the shading pops through from the ink below on the page.  It’s actually similar to how when I do my original paintings – I do mostly a monochromatic shaded underpainting (as the French would call a “grisaille” or the Italians would call a “verdaccio”) and then I use watery thin paints to put colour on top.  But of course, with a coloring page the greyscale is already printed, hehe.

I don’t think I’d do a whole coloring book with grayscale, not an actual published one at least (I’d like to keep my official coloring books all in the same traditional format) but I’ve been toying with the idea of offering (just to my Patreon Patrons as part of the Coloring Tier perks) some downloadable grayscale coloring pages.  Again, this would be IN ADDITION to the traditional lineart pages, not instead of, hehe, we’re going to always keep adding new lineart pages as always, this would just be a fun and additional way for folks to color who prefer grayscale or want to experiment with watercolor glazing, etc.

Let me know what ya think!  I could come out with these fairly regularly, as it doesn’t require the usual graphic design issues that come with getting my lineart done since I can do them on my own, and would just be an added bonus (no additional charge) for you folks who are already in the Coloring Tier =)  I might do it as a PDF eBook or maybe just individual pages……

For those of you not familiar with grayscale coloring pages & associated media, definitely Google it – I’ve played around with it and it’s totally fun!
